Narrow Gauge North

2024

Slim Gauge Circle

The Slim Gauge Circle is an independent, informal group of over 120 UK, (plus some overseas), based enthusiasts interested in North American narrow gauge railroads and the modelling thereof. The Circle was founded nearly 40 years ago to provide a meeting place where the emphasis was on modelling, the exchange of ideas, meeting old and making new friends, plus some trading.

The club has two meetings a year at the Rugby Railway Club, Hillmorton Rd, Rugby, CV22 5AL, in May and November. Specialist traders and suppliers attend, generally with a wide selection of both new and pre-owned models, accessories and books. We have members own "bring and buy" tables and various models/layouts on display. Sometimes a "clinic" style presentation will be given in the early afternoon – if a member volunteers. The meeting venue provides refreshments from noon.

We publish a glossy magazine, the Slim Gauge Circular, twice a year and between that, The Slim Gauge Dispatches, our informative newsletter.

Members' interests include Colorado, Maine, West Coast narrow gauge, plus logging and mining railroads in all scales, including On30, On3, On2, HOn3, HOn30, Sn3, Nn3 and the large scale G Scale and Fn3. We have two active modular groups modelling On30 and HOn3. The On30 group meets at least another couple of times a year, usually in Newbury, Berkshire, for Running Days. Several members have layouts on the exhibition circuit.

Membership dues are very reasonable (£10 per year to cover the costs of the hall, the magazine and the newsletter). Interested visitors are welcomed to their first meeting. We are not affiliated to other organisations such as the NMRA, though we have close ties to the 7mm Narrow gauge Association, who are usually invited to bring both their new and second-hand sales stands to the twice yearly meetings.

The Circle has a website: www.slimgaugecircle.com and a Facebook page.
