The railway is based on nowhere in particular, but the surrounding buildings place it somewhere near the North East coast, with the station named after a village near Durham. The railway is run as a preservation society, and therefore any type of train may be seen running. Most of the traffic is passenger stock, biased towards the older Ffestiniog Railway types, but others appear at any time.

Most of the rolling stock is made from kits, modified where required. Locos are a mixture of kit and hand built, running on commercial "N" gauge chassis modified to suit. A large number of locos are available, so if you do not see your favourite running we may have it. We will run it on request, given a few minutes to place it on its appropriate train.

Buildings are made from "Morris Mouldings" (formerly Ossett Mouldings) and "Linka", with the odd cardboard and plastic kit. The operators will be pleased to try and answer questions about the layout and the 009 Society.
